We Made the Case, So Let’s Make a Change – Child Welfare Cases in the Child Support System
Thursday, October 8, 2-3:30 PM ET
Session opens at 1:30 PM EST
Registration is required for this event.
Research has shown that the collection of child support from parents whose children are in in foster care is not cost effective. Other research indicates that the collection of support from these families extends the time the children are in an out-of-home placement, thereby damaging reunification and stability efforts. Are child support goals (recoupment) and child welfare goals (return to safe and stable home) inconsistent? What questions should I ask in my own jurisdiction to see if our collection policies need to change? How would I educate policymakers in my state so that they can modify or change policies? Come to this session prepared to share your experience and learn how you can affect child support/child welfare policy in your home state.
